  • Kid Icarus: Uprising

Dyntos (ディントス Dintosu) is the god of the forge introduced in Kid Icarus: Uprising. He is revealed to be the original creator of the Three Sacred Treasures, as well as most of Pit's other weapons. The elderly god resides in a strange dimension that houses his workshop, where he can craft and manipulate anything from powerful weapons and living creatures, to entire recreations of various locations. While he refuses to interfere in conflicts between the gods and humans, he still helps Pit by creating a new weapon called the Great Sacred Treasure after Hades destroys the original Three Sacred Treasures.

Characteristics

Appearance

Dyntos's portrait

He is an elderly-looking man of average height whose normal appearance belies his vast power and abilities. He has a long white beard and mustache and is mostly bald except for two tufts of hair on the sides of his head. He wears dull grey-colored clothing with a blue plate on his shoulder and a large hexagon-shaped metal brace on his left arm. His artwork shows him wielding a large metal hammer with which he presumably crafts his creations.

Personality

He mostly behaves like a grumpy old man who likes to be addressed with honorifics, such as "Sir" or "Lord Dyntos" and greatly dislikes it when he is shown disrespect by others. He is a wise and brilliant being, possessing vast knowledge on many things and is a genius craftsman, capable of creating weapons, machines, and even living beings and replicas with ease. He takes great pride in his creations and his craft seems to be one of the few things that he shows genuine enthusiasm about. He does not show much interest or worry for the chaotic events that occur outside of his domain, often maintaining a rather indifferent demeanor despite the apocalyptic events going on. His lack of great concern for the world's state of near-annihilation however could be understandable as his powers would have allowed him to rebuild the world should the war with Hades gotten out of hand. Despite this, he does seem to genuinely care about the world to some degree and appears to have had some faith in Pit's skills from the beginning.

Abilities

Dyntos is described by Palutena as "powerful beyond imagination" and a being of great wisdom, and may very well be the most powerful of the gods. As god of the forge, he can create any weapon he can think of and has the very power to create the world's most powerful army if he wanted to, however he has no interest in such a thing and prefers to craft and build for the enjoyment of it. His powers are not just limited to weapons and machines, he can even create living beings with souls and bodies and exact duplicates of anyone or anything, even entire landscapes. He also seems to be somewhat omniscient, having great knowledge on many things, such as all the events that have transpired in the outside world and even knows what is in the mind of others. With his ability to see into the minds of others, he can create exact replicas of their memories in the real world. Like all the other gods, he has the power to communicate telepathically with others, such as Pit and Palutena, and he has complete control over the environment within his workshop, easily being able to altar its interior and physics.

In Kid Icarus: Uprising

Dyntos only appears in Chapter 24: The Three Trials, and he creates countless foes to test Pit's abilities by copying many of the angel's past enemies for him to battle again in order to see if he is worthy of wielding his ultimate weapon, the Great Sacred Treasure, and defeating Hades.

Idol Description

The god and keeper of the forge. He is the creator of not only the Three Sacred Treasures but all sacred armaments. Cunning and highly creative, Dyntos is said to be one of the few real forces in the divine pantheon.

Other appearances

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Dyntos appears as one of the Kid Icarus related spirits.

Trivia

  • His title of "god of the forge" most likely indicates that he is based on Hephaestus, the Greek god of the forge, blacksmithing, and craftsmanship.
  • Dyntos's name comes from the Greek word, δυνατός dynatόs, which means "mighty".
  • He may have been based or is a new take on Zeus from the original Kid Icarus, a powerful elderly-looking god who aided Pit by giving him great weapons if he passed his trials.
  • Palutena's statement in Chapter 24 and Dyntos's Idol claim that he created all sacred armaments, but the Palutena Bow and Silver Bow are explicitly stated to be crafted by Palutena herself, and the Dark Pit Staff was created by the Mirror of Truth.
  • Dyntos is mentioned in the trophy of Pseudo-Palutena in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.
