Erinus (エリヌス Erinusu) is a reoccurring cloaked, one-eyed monster in the Kid Icarus series.

Appearances

Kid Icarus

Erinuses are monsters encountered in the Palace in the Sky. An Erinus will continue to attack Pit even after being blasted apart by his Arrow of Light by having the remaining parts dash at the angel. It is tenacious enough to keep re-appearing until shot to pieces.

Manual Description

The God of Revenge in Greek legend. It will not forgive those who have entered the Palace in the Sky. It is said that no one has seen it and lived to tell the tale.

Kid Icarus: Uprising

Official artwork from Kid Icarus.

Erinus appears in Medusa's Final Battle and a few rare other places. Unlike its previous appearance, it can only split into two parts when defeated—its upper body and its legs. Humorously, it is revealed that the Erinus wears blue-striped boxer shorts underneath its robes when it splits apart. Before it splits, the Erinus attacks by firing energy balls at Pit; afterwards, the upper body will try to ram into Pit at high speed while the legs try to kick him. If the upper body is destroyed before the legs, the legs will become permanently confused and can be defeated easily. They were referred to as as being gods in the original Kid Icarus game, although it seems that no longer is the case.

Idol Description

An Erinus is an Underworld foe that prefers to attack in great numbers, though even when seeming to fight solo...it isn't. Its top and bottom halves can separate and fight independently, making it a diabolical duo!

Trivia

  • The Erinyes were commonly called the Furies in Greek mythology, creatures of vengeance borne from blood that actually crossed many cultural boundaries, even showing up in the Inferno. They are often depicted as winged women.
