Help Guide

Icaruspedia highly encourages the use of references or a citation to a source where you found certain information about an article.

References can be found on articles by simply clicking a number that is next to a statement, such as:

Kid Icarus features Pit.[1]

You can also find references by going to the bottom of the pages to the "References" section.

Adding a Reference

Adding a reference to an article is quite simple. To do it, use the following code:

<ref>actual text of reference</ref>

Doing this will refer the article to a source. If you are adding a reference to an article that has no references, add the {{refbar}} template to the bottom of the article, above all navigation and stub templates, as well as categories.

Remember to add the reference after the punctuation. Here are a few examples of what to do and what not to do:

Pit was in Kid Icarus,[1] and Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. is correct
Pit was in Kid Icarus,[1] and Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters.[2] is correct
Pit was in Kid Icarus,[1], and in Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters[2]. is not correct

Articles that Need Sources

Articles that need sources need to be flagged correctly. This can be done by adding the {{Sources}} template to the top of a page to request references. Alternatively, if it is a specific section or sentence that needs to be verified, mark it by using the {{fact}} template at the end of the section.

Multiple Citations of the Same Source

In long articles, you may come across the problem of needing to give the same source twice. To do this, you do not need to say the same things twice and add it to the References list two times, but can reuse your previous reference and give it again. For this, you need to give names to your references:

If you give two or more references the same name,<ref name="test">Only
the description in the first ref with the name (that is, a) is
shown</ref> they will have the same number.<ref name="test"/>

The first time you cite the reference, you have to use the 'name=' parameter to give a specific, preferably descriptive name (e.g. "official_guide"), followed by the source. The second time you cite the reference, you simply use an empty <ref name= /> tag, using the same name given to the previous reference. Both references will then share the same number, and in the list of references at the bottom of the page there will only be one entry, with links back to each part of the article from where it is linked, so that the reader can continue to read exactly where they have clicked on the reference:

If you give two or more references the same name,[2]

they will have the same number.[2]
[...]

2. ^ a b Only the description in the first ref with the name (that is, a) is shown
