Enemy Type: Grounded

The Snowman (スノーマン Sunōman) is a recurring enemy in the Kid Icarus series. It is an ice monster from the Underworld and is one of strongest within the forces. Because of its body composition, it is one of the few creatures that prefers to reside in or around very cold places.

Characteristics

The Snowmen make up a race of primitive, humanoid frost beings that originally lived in the coldest parts of the Underworld. Their bodies are very resilient to most attacks, making them difficult beasts to take down. Snowmen are mischievous and cunning, but are also extremely territorial. As such, they don't treat trespassers kindly and will throw chunks of ice at their enemies until they either leave their territory or succumb to their injuries. Despite being Underworld monsters, Pit's adventures have shown that they are able to adapt to conditions at the surface so long as they stay within a cool climate. In addition, there also exists a shorter variation of these creatures, although they are just as strong as their larger brethren.

Appearances

Kid Icarus

Snowmen are foes encountered only in the Overworld's hinterlands, where they throw snowballs straight at Pit (though Pit can crouch under them). They are very tough enemies with 10 Hit Points, and may not actually be worth the effort to take down (though Pit should still try, in order to increase his strength). This monster slowly but surely trudges towards Pit.

Manual Description

The Abominable Snowman of Angel Land. Its body is made of ice and likes cold places. A proud creature, it hurls ice to protect its territory.

Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters

The Snowman is called "Gruff" here, and is about half the size of their appearance in Kid Icarus.

Wanders around the floor and attacks Pit when it finds him.

Kid Icarus: Uprising

Snowmen return as enemies, looking far more menacing than mischievous. These ice giants mostly appear in cold locations, such as those found during The Seafloor Palace and The Space-Pirate Ship. Despite their outer bodies being made of solid ice, the interior of their being is actually quite soft and flexible. In fact, the lungs of these monsters seemingly comprise much of their upper bodies, allowing them to inhale large amounts of air. As their balloon-like lungs inflate, they can rapidly decrease the temperature of the stored air to freezing levels and unleash it in the form of a strong gust of frosty wind to encase their foes in ice.

Idol Description

A mean, hulking giant made of ice, this is one Snowman who definitely isn't a jolly, happy soul. A territorial beast, it blasts all who come near with its frozen breath.

Other Appearances

Captain N: The Game Master

A Snowman appeared in the episode "Mr. & Mrs. Mother Brain" where it tried to throw an ice shard at Pit, but it missed, and Pit destroyed him.

Trivia

  • This monster was clearly inspired by stories of the Yeti or the Abominable Snowman, as mentioned in the official manual.
