Zuree (ズリー Zurī) are enemies in Kid Icarus and Kid Icarus: Uprising. As being ghosts, they sneak up on Pit and then attack when his back is turned.

Characteristics

The Zuree are a race of malevolent ghosts that normally reside deep in the Underworld, but are among Medusa's high-ranking fighters despite them being rather weak. This ghostly monster is cloaked in white and has a brown face with discernible features, the most prominent being its large, red nose. In a way, this feature acts as a fault for the Zuree as its bright red coloration causes it to stick out like a sore thumb in dark places, despite the rest of its gloomy body fitting in with its surroundings. During the years leading up to Kid Icarus: Uprising, the Zuree evolved into much more frightening spirits, now sporting massive, curving claws tipped in red.

Appearances

Kid Icarus

Zuree are encountered in the Palace in the Sky. A Zuree has what appears to be a bright red nose that practically glows in contrast to its surroundings. They simply fly vertically, and are one of the weakest foes Pit will encounter. They are most notable for their large nose, giving them a very strange appearance in the vein of Specknose.

Manual Description

An evil ghost brought in by Medusa to guard the Palace in the Sky. They roam around in groups yet they have little fighting power. Nevertheless, don't let them catch Pit unaware. Make sure that Pit finishes them all off.

Kid Icarus: Uprising

The Zuree returns in this game with an updated look. In contrast to its goofy appearance in Kid Icarus, this enemy now looks much more ghastly and evil, having flaming yellow eyes and two enormous claws on each of its hands. These claws can cause shaking when Pit is struck by them. In addition, its prominent red nose has been replaced with an equally bright red tongue that droops down from its mouth, which is lined with sharp teeth. It attacks by shape-shifting into an intangible blue flame, then follows up with a claw swipe before becoming intangible again; consequently, it is most easily defeated by dashing out of the way as it materializes and counter with a charge shot when it tries to attack. The Zuree are first encountered during The Reaper's Line of Sight.

Idol Description

Attacks pass through this Underworld ghost when in spirit form, allowing it to approach prey and rip it to shreds with its deadly shake-inducing claws. This leaves it vulnerable, so dodge with a dash and then strike!

Other Appearances

NES Remix 2

A single Zuree appears in the Kid Icarus challenge before the Medusa fight.

Super Smash Bros. 4

Zurees appear as enemies in the 3DS-exclusive mode, Smash Run.

Trophy Description

The Zuree usually lives in the Underworld, but in Kid Icarus, Medusa set them to work guarding the Palace in the Sky. In Smash Bros., they appear as a silvery mist, waiting until they've floated close enough to a fighter before showing themselves and attacking with their sharp claws. That's your cue to fight back!

Trivia

  • The Zuree were possibly inspired by the Shades of Greek mythology, which were said to be evil cloaked spirits of the Underworld.
