Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, known in Japan as Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu fō Nintendō Surī Dī Esu / Wī Yū (大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ), also known as "SSB4", is the fourth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series published by Nintendo. As the first game in the series to appear on two platforms, it is being developed by Sora Ltd. in collaboration with Namco Bandai Games. Although both games will feature identical character rosters and basic modes of play, there will be notable differences between the two versions, including exclusive stages. The 3DS version will feature stages inspired by handheld games, while the Wii U version will have stages based on console titles. According to the game's director, Super Smash Bros. 3DS will be more focused on the individualized experience while the Wii U version will be primarily multiplayer-focused, as with previous Smash Bros. titles.
Kid Icarus Series
Pit returns as a playable character in this game, with an updated look and moveset based on his appearance in Kid Icarus: Uprising. While Palutena's Arrow remains as his Neutral Special move, Pit will now utilize some of his other weapons, including the Upperdash Arm and the Guardian Orbitars. In addition, Pit now has the Power of Flight instead of the Wings of Icarus as his recovery move. His Final Smash has also been replaced with Three Sacred Treasures from the previous Palutena's Army.
A 3DS-exclusive stage inspired by Kid Icarus: Uprising has also been revealed, known as the Reset Bomb Forest, which is the main setting of Chapter 11, Viridi, Goddess of Nature. It depicts the war between humans over the Wish Seed, with players fighting atop the ruins of a castle. At some point, Viridi herself appears, and a Reset Bomb will drop from the sky, completely changing the landscape into the Reset Bomb Forest. It's currently unknown if the structure of the stage itself will be impacted by this change. A Wii U-exclusive stage was also shown, known as Palutena's Temple, and is revealed to be a massive stage similar to Temple and New Pork City.
The X Bomb, Ore Club, Drill Arm, Killer Eye, and Back Shield all appear as an items. The X Bomb notably draws inspiration from both Kid Icarus: Uprising and Meteos. Trophies of Phosphora and Pseudo-Palutena are also confirmed to appear in the Wii U version.
In the 3DS-exclusive mode, the Smash Run, various enemies form series are confirmed to appear. They include the Monoeye, Reaper, Skuttler, and Mimicutie.
