Kid Icarus 3D Anime

Nintendo has confirmed 6 anime shorts to be released via Nintendo Video on the Nintendo 3DS, currently slated for early 2012. The shorts will cover a variety of topics within the Kid Icarus universe. This is a very notable move by Nintendo for a relatively unknown series, showing their dedication to giving it the grand reboot fans have been longing for. These anime shorts are to be produced by some of the most prestigious Japanese animation studios, such as Production I.G, Shaft, and STUDIO4°C. Each studio will focus on one particular major Kid Icarus character.

Production I.G's feature will span for three episodes, with Pit as the main character. These animated shorts will center on a great battle, as the heroic angel and the humans are pitted against Medusa's minions, and the God of Death, Thanatos. Unlike the other features, this one will be done in CGI, instead of the traditional anime format. Directed by Junichi Fujisaku.

Shaft's feature will span for two episodes, and have Palutena as the main character. The atmosphere of these animated clips will be light-hearted and comical, as Palutena, Pit, and the Centurions fight the forces of a sinister army of vegetable monsters. Directed by Akiyuki Shinbo.

STUDIO4°C's feature will be only one episode, with Medusa as the protagonist. This short film will be in Medusa's perspective during her time in the last 24 years until the present. Directed by Kazuto Nakazawa.

• Interestingly, the mechanical ships illustrated on the poster featuring Thanatos appear to be modeled after the famous Trojan Horse, which was built by humans.
