Orcos is the final boss and main antagonist in Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. He is a nefarious archdemon and warmonger that leads an army of monsters to attack Angel Land, and is the whole reason why Pit leaves on his quest to strengthen himself. Once Orcos arrives on the scene, he proclaims himself the ruler of the "Evil Land" and petrifies Palutena (ironically, something that Medusa failed to do). Hence, Pit must journey through the Sky Palace to find and defeat him. In the boss fight, once he takes enough damage, Orcos will damage transform into a giant version of himself.

In Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters

Orcos battling Pit.

Orcos appears as the final boss of this game, where he is fought in two forms. In the first form, he is slightly larger than Pit and will fly around the room shooting fireballs in sets of three. This is his only attack aside from chasing after Pit and trying to collide with him. After taking enough hits, the demon will turn into a fireball while the entire room collapses. During this second phase, Orcos grows so large that his full form is never shown on the screen. He also gains many new attacks, although he executes them in a rather predictable pattern. His upper body will first appear where he will launch a single fireball from his mouth that splits into many separate flames after a short while. His tail will then attack from below, shooting numerous arrow shaped projectiles toward the upper part of the area. Finally, his left hand will appear and spawn multiple Bats that can be defeated like any other enemies. After the attack, he will repeat this pattern throughout the entire battle. In addition, Orcos may also attempt to stomp on Pit with his foot if he remains at the bottom of the screen.

Manual Description

The secret enemy that attacked Angel Land in Palutena's dream. But, just what are the Orcos?!!!!!

Trivia

  • Due to his name and origin, Orcos is most likely based on Orcus, a Roman god of the Underworld that can be compared to Hades of Greek mythology.
  • Orcos' design was probably inspired by a creature called an orc, which is said to be a strong, humanoid monster of fantasy. It also appears to have qualities of demons such as bat-like wings and horns.
  • Orcos is the only enemy character in the Kid Icarus series that has no official artwork.
  • Oddly, the Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters manual states Orcos' name in plural form, even though he is a single character.
