People, Companies, Music, etc.

Hello, the wiki Executive Board and I propose that we begin making articles for People and Companies involved in the Kid Icarus franchise, and improve on the ones we already have. We also propose that we begin working on creating music articles, if everyone could help out or give their opinions on what other articles we should begin working on, please speak up :) --Starphoria (C·E) 15:14, 26 February 2012 (MST)

Nintendo and HAL Laboratory are given as they made the Kid Icarus series and Smash Bros. Series respectively, but should we have an article about the Factor 5 rumors? They area listed as having a cancelled flight project for the Wii, and the older Pit concept art looks really similar to Magna's appearance. -RedTroopa 15:50, 26 February 2012 (MST)
Probably not, since we don't speculate around here. TOSE did a lot of work on Of Myths and Monsters I believe. We have the page for Nintendo, but it could use some work. --Starphoria (C·E) 15:56, 26 February 2012 (MST)
Understood, and I believe for the first game, Satoru Okada was the director, Gunpei Yokoi was producer, Yoshio Sakamoto was a major designer after he finished Metroid, and Hirokazu Tanaka composed the music. -RedTroopa 16:13, 26 February 2012 (MST)
You can make articles on those people if you like, it'd be greatly appreciated. --Starphoria (C·E) 16:16, 26 February 2012 (MST)
Thank you for making those articles. Keep up the good work. --Starphoria (C·E) 17:01, 27 February 2012 (MST)

Hmm, I'm not sure about music articles. I made all of the music articles on SmashWiki, and that was fairly easy, as you could explain where everything originates, where it played in Smash Bros., how to unlock it etc. But with Kid Icarus, you've not got much to say, just "Dark Pit's Theme plays whenever Dark Pit appears in Kid Icarus: Uprising", with a small section on the track's composers. A general tracklist style page could work, but nothing more. ToastUltimatum 19:14, 27 February 2012 (MST)

(nods) I agree, you can create that if you like. --Starphoria (C·E) 19:30, 27 February 2012 (MST)
Create a general tracklist for each of the games (or other media). Any notable or famous songs (should they exist) can then be given their own independent articles. Maxite 10:53, 28 February 2012 (MST)
Just a note for anyone that plans to make a music-based article, the word song should not be used when describing music tracks. Wiktionary defines song as "A short musical composition with lyrics for voice or voices, performed by singing." Intrumental tracks are not songs, so just call them tracks, music pieces, compositions or arrangements. Many Wikis feature this mistake beyond a state of repair, I don't want that to happen to Icaruspedia. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 12:36, 28 February 2012 (MST)
Thank you for the information. --Starphoria (C·E) 12:41, 28 February 2012 (MST)

Figma? there are Japanese licensed figures coming out of Pit and Dark pit in April. I think there should be articles for these figures, as they have already released a Link and Samus Aran. thoughts? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crystal ahvokki (talkcontribs) 22:58, 19 March 2013‎

StreetPass Mii Plaza

Should the StreetPass Mii Plaza software for Nintendo 3DS have an article on here? One major part of the StreetPass Mii Plaza is Puzzle Swap, where StreetPassing can get you one of a certain amount of Puzzle Pieces to complete an image, which starts to animate in 3D once completed. One puzzle was recently released that is based upon Kid Icarus: Uprising. Is this notable enough? because I'm happy to make the article. ToastUltimatum 04:16, 28 February 2012 (MST)

Depends if the article has enough info, would it fit better as its own article, or on the Kid Icarus: Uprising page? --Starphoria (C·E) 05:31, 28 February 2012 (MST)
Meh, there's not much information to offer which is specific to the Kid Icarus panel, but if it were to get a full article, then we could go into details on how these pieces are obtained. If you want, I could make a test article in my userspace. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 06:17, 28 February 2012 (MST)
That would be fantastic, thank you. --Starphoria (C·E) 09:53, 28 February 2012 (MST)
Judging by your test article, I think it has enough info to be an article. --Starphoria (C·E) 12:59, 28 February 2012 (MST)
No point in waiting then, I'll export it now. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 13:01, 28 February 2012 (MST)
Alrighty, thanks. --Starphoria (C·E) 13:09, 28 February 2012 (MST)

Uprising: Lightning Battle

Hello. I am currently working on the Lightning Battle article for Uprising. Since many users are currently playing through the game and are most likely up to this level, I would like to know if anyone else is currently working on this page so no one's work goes to waste because someone posted first. Thanks! Darkstarblaze 19:50, 1 April 2012 (MDT)

Hey there! I just finished that level today, so I wouldn't mind helping you out! Just ask, Im no good at images, but I'm pretty handy with text once you give me the layout. :)

I could try helping although I'm a really new but I can provide a lot of specific details like enemy patterns and attack patterns, rooms, boss, and tweak some epilouges. But remember I'm really really new. Images, making links, and even making the Giant words with the line below I'm still trying to figure out. Forgive me. GBAer May 15 2012 19:15
I'm new too but I already worked on some other articles like the Boom Stomper and Strongarm articles I hope this isn't too late. Hawkins 11:07 22 July 2013 (EST)

Using Monobook, the logo link overlaps the Userpage link on top. I can't click my username on top. Only the logo. --HavocReaper48 19:03, 11 April 2012 (MDT)

Hello from the Strategy Wiki

Hello. I'm an editor on the Strategy Wiki, another member of the NIWA. I was wondering if I could use things like information and images from this wiki to improve our guide to Kid Icarus: Uprising. The guide is here if you're interested. Thanks for your consideration!--Salnax 21:14, 14 April 2012 (MDT)

You can totally use anything I posted! Aaliyah928. I don't know about the other users however.

Thanks for your help. We've added a link to you from our page.--Salnax 13:31, 21 April 2012 (MDT)

Polls

Can users suggest new polls yet? My suggestion is: "Which weapon category is your favorite so far in Kid Icarus: Uprising?" TheMan99 19:35, 17 April 2012 (MDT)TheMan99

"palms. definantly palms" PsyAbsolAceN

It has been suggested a lot - due to community consensus, we'll probably do it next. --Starphoria (C·E) 20:25, 5 May 2012 (MDT)

GBAer says: I suggest a favorite or most annoying, easiest, or funniest, epic-est, most serious character or boss. Then again that might be too many answers so maybe it should be categorized by god or warrior and boss.

Zodiac Weapons Articles

I've been trying to complete some articles on each individual Zodiac weapon. I was wondering if I could get som help in making them. PsyAbsolAceN 11:26, 13 May 2012 (MDT)

Where are all the admins?

Icaruspedia is suffering from a terrible spambot attack, and the only admin I've seen doing anything is Anothrgamer1234. These spambots are clever in making userpages that only admins can delete, so we could do with more of them paying attention to the site. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 08:53, 10 July 2012 (MDT)

I apologize, I've been really busy. We need to fix this, badly. Maxite is working on it. --Starphoria (C·E) 17:21, 10 July 2012 (MDT)
I suppose some new admins are in order. There are 2 users in particular who could use the rights, but I'm going to hold off on that. --Starphoria (C·E) 17:34, 10 July 2012 (MDT)
The spambots seem to be coming from one place, judging by the similarity of their spam and consistent use of the same phrases. Could a CheckUser extension could help track them down so we could block the IP range they happen to be using? --Anothrgamer1234 17:54, 10 July 2012 (MDT)
I'll tell Maxite. --Starphoria (C·E) 02:48, 12 July 2012 (MDT)

Looks like the next wave is coming. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 18:41, 10 July 2012 (MDT)

Dear All,

I have already suggested this, but it seems to have been ignored. I urge this wiki to maintain a simple but yet effective idea. Autoconfirmed Users is what this wiki needs. The Mariowiki already uses this, so just refer to them if you're new to the term. Of my year and a half spent with them, I never came across a spambot. I am no tech geek, but is creating this process so hard? I am not questioning anyone, but a reply would be nice to receive...

Currently, the Main Page is outdated, obviously. It's because I've been too busy in real life to maintain it. If any administrator would like to take over the job, please speak up. I'll be around, but I won't be near active enough for this. --Starphoria (C·E) 03:00, 12 July 2012 (MDT)

Dismissable Sitenotice

Our MediaWiki:Sitenotice is frankly huge, so it ought to be dismissable, but for that to be possible, we would need to install this [1]. I'd do this myself, but unfortunately, only users with root access to the wiki can install it, so I'll have to leave it in their hands. Whenever someone can install this, that would be great. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 10:19, 14 July 2012 (MDT)

I'll contact Maxite immediately. ---Starphoria (C·E) 22:47, 14 July 2012 (MDT)

AR Cards

These pages, such as Medusa (AR Card) should be merged into articles based on certain categories. The three main armies (Forces of Nature, Underworld, and Palutena's Army) should be subdivided by minor and major characters (Bosses/Deities; Enemies; Centurions) while the lesser important three (Space Pirates, Chaos Kin, Unaffiliated) could remain in one page. Items and powers could have a single page. Weapons should be divided by weapon class. For now there are not enough pages to do so, but I think this is an important addition for the future; the pages we have now are stubs. IceBlue[E] 21:33, 15 July 2012 (MDT)
Well, there is a difference between being really short and lacking information and being a short article that actually has the information it needs. Personally, I'm not sure if we should make articles based on categories, but I don't mind either way. --Starphoria (C·E) 21:37, 15 July 2012 (MDT)
All right they can stay. IceBlue[E] 16:12, 16 July 2012 (MDT)

Link Colors

If we want to keep the light blue scheme for the templates and Sitenotice, we need to change the color of the links. My suggestion would be darkblue or or a shade of violet (a color that is dark). IceBlue[E] 16:12, 16 July 2012 (MDT)

Can you find an exact hex color and use it in an example? --Starphoria (C·E) 18:36, 16 July 2012 (MDT)
What about This one? IceBlue[E] 16:41, 19 July 2012 (MDT)
Green doesn't fit the look. --Starphoria (C·E) 17:27, 19 July 2012 (MDT)
Would you like a deep purple instead? IceBlue[E] 20:14, 19 July 2012 (MDT)
That could work, but if you find a shade of blue that works on the templates and such, I rather go with that. Purple works, though, just not too light or pure violet. --Starphoria (C·E) 00:25, 20 July 2012 (MDT)
Ok then this? IceBlue[E] 00:38, 20 July 2012 (MDT)
Get other opinions. --Starphoria (C·E) 13:08, 23 July 2012 (MDT)

This color works quite well, coincides with the white text. Purple's decent, too. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 17:25, 23 July 2012 (MDT)

New Affiliation

Dear All,

since the Metroid series is considered the "sister" series of Kid Icarus, I propose an affiliation with the Metroid Wiki. It is only fitting, especially since we are friends with other (irrelevant) Wikis such as Wikisimpsons. So in the name of the Komayto, I say we do it :-D

JORDAN DEBONO 13:02, 18 July 2012 (MDT)

All right, but you need to get the approval of the staff on there to approve of it and go propose it to the admins on here. IceBlue[E] 16:43, 19 July 2012 (MDT)
Ask Metroid Wiki first. --Starphoria (C·E) 17:28, 19 July 2012 (MDT)
I have written a proposal to them. Here's the link: [2].
JORDAN DEBONO 11:16, 20 July 2012 (MDT)
Thanks for adding to my proposal IceBlue. Let's just hope the notice gets a recognition at least,
JORDAN DEBONO 08:52, 21 July 2012 (MDT)
That's because it was moved here [3] Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 04:17, 23 July 2012 (MDT)

Oh I feel so stupid now. Can I delete my post please ??

JORDAN DEBONO 05:13, 23 July 2012 (MDT)

We could do to keep this conversation here, as it contains the link to the new location of the discussion which people are going to need, and general rules of archiving state that talk page/Skyworld posts should never be removed. If another admin says you can remove it though, then it will be. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 06:03, 23 July 2012 (MDT)
Thank you ToastUltimatum for your response. I understand that rules must be kept. So, is there any other admin willing to be so kind...
JORDAN DEBONO 06:15, 23 July 2012 (MDT)

One of the Metroid editors have replied. I can't exactly tell if he the user wants to do it or not. Can someone check it out please?

JORDAN DEBONO 00:42, 2 August 2012 (MDT)

They have replied confirming their affiliation with us. I have contacted Starphoria, asking what must be done next but if anyone could answer beforehand please do so. For the convo just see above for the hyperlink,

Templates

Recently I have dealt a lot with templates; mainly "Missing Image", "Stub" and "Incomplete". While Missing Image looks rather fine and tidy, the "Stub" notice could be narrowed a bit. Does it need to be that big ?? And the "Incomplete" is a total mess. Everything is shifted right and it has no proper border. If you ask me, THAT is incomplete and not the article it represents. To be honest, all Templates should be made as small as possible in my opinion. They make articles look uglier than they already would look. One good system which I've noticed and adopted is placing the templates at the bottom. This is a good idea and if we could all stick to it, these templates might become a little less annoying. I still hope they get fixed though...

JORDAN DEBONO 00:56, 23 July 2012 (MDT)

I'll fix them later. --Starphoria (C·E) 13:06, 23 July 2012 (MDT)
Thanks Starphoria, I'll be eager to check out some new designs.
JORDAN DEBONO 13:20, 23 July 2012 (MDT)
For the Incomplete template, there is some hidden padding that pushes it to the left, probably caused by a misformatting of the div box itself. I don't know the real problem of this. IceBlue[E] 14:55, 23 July 2012 (MDT)
Thanks for the info IceBlue. If there is anyway I can fix these technical problems myself I would be willing to do them. I'd just need to be told how that's all.
JORDAN DEBONO 10:01, 24 July 2012 (MDT)

New Picture

Dear All,

I just uploaded a picture for Skyworld. If you don't like it I'll just upload a new version of the file.

JORDAN DEBONO 02:21, 24 July 2012 (MDT)

Ok good. It isn't necessary to tell us that here. This is for discussions. IceBlue[E] 17:24, 24 July 2012 (MDT)
Look great! Thanks! -RicketyTrigger 00:53, 25 July 2012 (MDT)-
Well sometimes it's hard to please everyone, especially when it comes to something that is seen frequently. So instead of some user just deleting the picture without reason, it would best be discussed here.
JORDAN DEBONO 00:54, 25 July 2012 (MDT)

American Spelling

I've decided that all articles use American spelling to keep it consistent if that's okay with you guys. I've seen articles that use both European and American spellings, but I think we should stick to one. —RicketyTrigger 13:27, 12 August 2012 (MDT)

Symbols for all Articles

IceBlue has recently taken the initiative of adding the Forces of Nature symbol and likewise to all articles in need of it. This is a great idea, but how about we add it to ALL articles slowly slowly. Commanders etc. is great, but we might as well put the building symbol near buildings and the the unaffiliated symbol near the Fighters and so on. Even the AR Cards should have them. I know it's a massive project but we might as well start it off. What do you think, JORDAN DEBONO 01:20, 14 August 2012 (MDT)

Weird, I've been thinking something similar to this yesterday while browsing other NIWA wikis. Anyways, I really like it! Thanks IceBlue. But, where are we gonna find all the symbols? —RicketyTrigger 15:18, 15 August 2012 (MDT)

Disable the New user message bot

I think we should disable said bot because having it send the message to a spambot only clogs up Recent Changes even further, and even with users who need a welcome message, it still doesn't look neat. We can instead do what SmashWiki do any only send a welcome message to users who have made a contribution to the wiki. This would be better anyway, because it gives the new users a specific member to consult. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 04:36, 14 August 2012 (MDT)

Well the recent changes is becoming a joke now, thanks to all the Spambots so disabling it wouldn't be a bad idea. But instead of finding alternative paths to solve this problem, why don't we just stop the Spambots altogether. ToastUltimatum, you are the most experienced member who continuously contributes. I suggest you fill in the coding our friend IceBlue was good enough to receive from some fellow SmashWiki editors regarding the Autoconfirmed users. He asked Starphoria to do it; he never replied since. If Autocomfirming doesn't work, then we might as well disable the bot. Hope you agree, JORDAN DEBONO 05:24, 15 August 2012 (MDT)
That would be fine with me. I would try to fill in the coding myself, but I have no idea how to do so. Sometimes I wonder what this wiki did to get all these spambots; they were never a problem until two months ago and they haven't stopped since.--Anothrgamer1234 10:20, 15 August 2012 (MDT)
I don't think I myself can disable a bot, I believe that only bureaucrats can change the use of or diable bots. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 11:15, 15 August 2012 (MDT)
According to the protection page of the Welcome Template, it says 'Administrators Only', so I'm sure that includes regular admins and not just bureaucrats (the history of the Main Page mentions of regular admins making edits on it as well). I've been trying to figure out how to disable this thing for awhile due to the similar reasons mentioned above, but I don't know how. Unless one of you guys know. —RicketyTrigger 15:18, 15 August 2012 (MDT)
OK, I think I've made a solution, which I have taken to go-ahead on. That solution was to block the bot indefinitely. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 16:29, 15 August 2012 (MDT)
Not exactly the best solution there, but it'll have to do for now. Besides, we seem to have blocked it by accident in the past without compromising its function, so when (or if) the spambot attacks cease we should be able to unblock it and allow it to go back to its normal job.--Anothrgamer1234 19:20, 15 August 2012 (MDT)

Desperate Measures

There are too many spambots for us to block normally at this point- we need to find a way to deal with them permanently. Until then, I propose that we disable user registration entirely until the problem can be resolved. I know that it's a risky decision, but if we don't do that the spambots will just keep coming until they overwhelm us. (If we actually do this, it might be wise to edit the main template so it explains the situation better to legitimate users of the website.)--Anothrgamer1234 09:58, 16 August 2012 (MDT)

I think that's a bit much. One thing we can do is make users have to click a link in a confirmation email like F-Zero Wiki recently installed, and then the spambots won't be able to make userpages. If there was then a way to hide the user creation log from Recent Changes, that would aid us even further, though nobody I know believes such a possibility exists. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 14:14, 16 August 2012 (MDT)
Disabling user making is definitely too much, but email confirmation definitely sounds like the right direction.—RicketyTrigger 15:17, 16 August 2012 (MDT)
Keeping the user creation log in recent changes might actually be fairly useful- I've found it rather easy to block spambots before they begin spamming just by looking at the usernames of newly created users. Regardless, email confirmation sounds like a much better idea than the one I was thinking of.--Anothrgamer1234 19:47, 16 August 2012 (MDT)
But if we made users have to confirm their email address, the spambots couldn't spam. And then we wouldn't need to see them in Recent Changes. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 20:14, 16 August 2012 (MDT)
Good point. We should implement that as soon as we can. Perhaps we should add a confirmation question to it in case they start registering fake e-mail addresses as well. Whoever's responsible for this seems persistent enough to do something like that.--Anothrgamer1234 22:46, 16 August 2012 (MDT)
When is the soonest time we can get the e-mail confirmation implemented? I checked the block log and realized that we've blocked nearly a thousand spambots- this is becoming an outright emergency that we have to deal with at once. Again, I think we need to start a wiki lockdown until we can get the e-mail confirmation in place, along with a CAPTCHA just to be safe.--Anothrgamer1234 00:36, 19 August 2012 (MDT)
Until the email confirmation and autocomfirmation is implemented into the wiki, user making should be temporarily disabled as the spam attack is not slowing down any time soon. —RicketyTrigger 22:08, 19 August 2012 (MDT)
It appears that we won't be able to put the lockdown into effect just yet- apparently, RicketyTrigger doesn't have the authority to do it. Maxite installed MediaWiki onto the site, so we should try to contact him as soon as possible so we can stop the endless horde of spambots. By the way, do we have an alternative method if we aren't able to get in touch with Maxite? I'm trying to block all the bots that I can, but more and more of them are getting through now. At this rate, we may need to get a new site. EDIT: We could try restricting the right to create pages to users of Patroller level or above; as the spambots don't edit existing pages, that should effectively neutralize them for now. I also found MediaWiki's manual about how to restrict access to wiki services that might come in handy. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Preventing_access#Restrict_account_creation (Sorry, I can't seem to remember the correct formatting.) I'm also asking for help from the other NIWA wikis- if worst comes to worst and we can't get in contact with Maxite, we could grant one of their administrators temporary bureaucrat rights long enough to implement e-mail confirmation and autoconfirmation. It might be a drastic measure, but it's no more extreme than locking down the entire wiki indefinitely.--Anothrgamer1234 22:46, 21 August 2012 (MDT)
I'm not sure if making someone a bureaucrat temporaily would fix this problem. I remember asking Starphoria on Skype awhile back to help fix the spam problem but he simply told me to ask Maxite about it (I left a message on Maxite's Skype so he can see it whenever he logs on it soon). —RicketyTrigger 01:35, 22 August 2012 (MDT)
Very well; we'll just have to hope he logs on soon, because it looks like he's the only one who can fix this mess; unfortunately, it's been so long since he was last on that I'm beginning to think he might have become completely inactive. I don't think that's the case, but if it is we'll need to find a new Technical Director. At any rate, it looks like we'll need to implement a CAPTCHA alongside the e-mail confirmation, as some spambots are able to circumvent the latter by supplying a legitimate "throwaway" e-mail address and confirming their accounts from there. There was a thread on the NIWA forums that had a solution for that, so we should use that as well. (Incidentally, my request for help on the NIWA forums has not been answered yet, but hopefully a response will come eventually.) Until then, we'll have to keep doing as much as we can.--Anothrgamer1234 17:29, 22 August 2012 (MDT)
Well F-Zero Wiki gets the same spambots, and they aren't smart enough to make email accounts. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 17:58, 22 August 2012 (MDT)
I just looked over there- they're definitely the same ones that we have. (I noticed that they started spamming over there at the same time as they started here. That seems a bit fishy if you ask me. Perhaps the attacks are being coordinated?) I did notice one thing, though- F-Zero Wiki appears to be able to ban IP addresses as well as users. Is there a way for us to do that as well? It may not be much help, but we need every opportunity to fight back that we can get. I'm no coding expert, but I'll try to keep an eye open for any other ways we can stop these spambots--Anothrgamer1234 20:11, 22 August 2012 (MDT)
I got a few replies from NIWA in their forums; I'll link the thread right here for whoever wants to see it. [4]
Calm down guys. All you need to do is contact Maxite, which can be easily done if you create a Skype account. --Starphoria (C·E) 12:27, 1 September 2012 (MDT)

Where is Maxite?

The last contribution he's made to the wiki was all the way back in July and he hasn't shown up at all since. Normally this wouldn't be a cause for alarm, but seeing that he's essentially the only one who can solve the spambot crisis, his continued inactivity is starting to worry me. Has anyone been able to contact him in any way at all?--Anothrgamer1234 18:09, 25 August 2012 (MDT)

He has a Skype account, and is online often. He pays the bills for the site, so he is obviously still aware about the site. I'd suggest getting a Skype account to use the IM system it offers, and you can come up with a solution. I would send him a message, but I'm in Seattle at a gaming convention at the moment, and I won't be able to contact him until next Sunday. --Starphoria (C·E) 12:25, 1 September 2012 (MDT)
All right, I'll be sure to sign up for a Skype account and see if I can get to him. By the way, it's good to see you're back as well. --Anothrgamer1234 19:59, 1 September 2012 (MDT)
I haven't been able to get in contact with Maxite over Skype, either. Has anyone else been able to contact him?--Anothrgamer1234 08:01, 5 September 2012 (MDT)
He's not accepted my contact request. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 11:29, 5 September 2012 (MDT)
It's been nearly a month now and there's still no sign of him. If he's aware of what's happening here, he's shown no sign of it.--Anothrgamer1234 16:02, 21 September 2012 (MDT)
Sorry about the absence, I've been busy rounding up some issues in life. Now I'll get back to work rounding up those pesky spambots. I'll also work on building a technical team to handle issues in my absence. Maxite 16:33, 22 September 2012 (MDT)
So glad you're back Maxite. Sorry to hear about that, hope everything's okay now. —RicketyTrigger 17:12, 22 September 2012 (MDT)

How to hide the spam

I already gave instructions to this on JORDAN DEBONO's talk page, but in case you didn't see it, here's how to hide the spam on Recent Changes. Go to the Namespace dropdown menu, click user, tick the box reading Invert selection, then click Go. This'll hide the spam. It's be great if we could set this as a default, though I don't think such a possibility exists. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 06:23, 8 September 2012 (MDT)

Request for IRC channel

Hey I believe IRC is a more effective way of chat for users and staff then Skype. Skype is limited since very few people have an account on it (Toast and I being users on this wiki that do not have it). I have set up the channel already: #kidicaruswiki be sure to create an account here if you haven't already done so. IceBlue[C] 16:10, 22 September 2012 (MDT)
Just so you know, I do have Skype. I'll check out the IRC when I'm not using a mobile browser. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 18:23, 22 September 2012 (MDT)
Hm...we should get a Special:Webchat page from Mibbit. Anyone know how to do that? IceBlue[C] 18:41, 22 September 2012 (MDT)
Ok, seeing not everyone has Skype, I guess it's fair to make an IRC for this wiki. We will use the channel IceBlue has already kindly set up. —RicketyTrigger 19:15, 22 September 2012 (MDT)

To get Special:WebChat, download the necessities from here. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 05:20, 23 September 2012 (MDT)

I don't think I have access to the server. IceBlue[C] 10:05, 23 September 2012 (MDT)
That wasn't aimed at you, bud. This isn't your talk page, it's the community portal, therefore directed at everyone, not just you. If I at least indented my response to match up with yours, I could understand you thinking I was aiming my comment at you, but I did not, I put my comment separately. That should have been clear enough. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 16:37, 23 September 2012 (MDT)

Plugins, Addons, and Technical Requests

Rather than have suggestions for plug-ins going everywhere across this page, here's a centralized location to make request, as well as a place to discuss the pros/cons of adding or changing plugins. Maxite 17:48, 23 September 2012 (MDT)

The above discussion has a link to a Special:WebChat download, this would be good to have on the wiki. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 11:19, 24 September 2012 (MDT)
I found some extensions that might be helpful in combating spambots, such as Extension:BadBehavior. Lucifer Sam, Siam Cat 17:09, 24 September 2012 (MDT)
We established that BadBehavior does not prevent spambots from making accounts, it blocks them afterwards. Therefore, that would only make RecentChanges look worse. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 11:15, 25 September 2012 (MDT)
We have not established that. There are some statements about it on its official website that imply that they prevent spambots from creating accounts, and some that imply they do not. In any case, I think it's worth checking out. Lucifer Sam, Siam Cat 06:31, 26 September 2012 (MDT)

Special:WebChat. Bump. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 18:52, 7 October 2012 (MDT)

Also Extension:YouTubeTag. IceBlue[C] 13:46, 8 October 2012 (MDT)
Why? We have Extension:EmbedVideo already. Is it not working for you? Maxite 02:59, 9 October 2012 (MDT)
Actually we should get Extension:RandomSelection. IceBlue[C] 20:00, 13 October 2012 (MDT)

NIWA Check in request

Hello, I'm dkpat from Golden Sun Universe/NIWA. I recently made a thread on the NIWA forums that requests that an admin from each wiki "check-in" and give an update on their wiki activity. I would appreciate it if someone from Icaruspedia could check in. Thank you. Link Dkpat 11:04, 25 October 2012 (MDT)

The Perfect Solution to the Spam

Courtesy of dkpat, I have stumbled across an installation that will shut up the spambots for good. It's called Asirra, and what it does is change the wiki's confirmation question to one involving recognising images. In the case of Asirra, it's "click the images of cats", when there are also images of dogs. Spambots have a much harder time figuring this out, and it's completely solved the spam problem on Golden Sun Universe and F-Zero Wiki. So it sounds like installing this will be useful, right?

The link to its MediaWiki page is here: [5]

I'm also still looking for Special:WebChat to be installed, the link to that, once again, is this: [6]

Finally, there's this thing IceBlue wanted, I'm not sure why we need it, but no harm in downloading it if we have time: [7]

If we can get this in, I'll appreciate it. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 16:49, 25 October 2012 (MDT)

Agreed. We should get Asirra installed at once.--Anothrgamer1234 00:16, 29 October 2012 (MDT)

The sooner the better... |( -The Forgotten Beast 08:10, 29 October 2012 (MDT)

Very well. Expect some minimal downtime tomorrow (11 Nov) as I'll be installing several plugins then. If not, you have my permission to beat me senseless. Maxite 01:06, 20 November 2012 (MST)

I have installed the webchat and dismissable sitenotice. Unfortunately I was unable to install Asirra, and I'm unable to figure out what the problem is. I'm afraid that I will need assistance getting Assira running, so if you know anyone who is familiar with ConfirmEdit or Assira, kindly direct them to me (or vice versa). Maxite 01:55, 20 November 2012 (MST)
Have you tried getting help from the people who installed it on Golden Sun Universe or F-Zero Wiki? Kirbman 13:50, 22 January 2013 (MST)
Asirra is now installed. Maxite 00:50, 22 March 2013 (MDT)
And the spam has finally stopped. I thought it would never end. Although I don't play Uprising that much these days, I'm glad to see that we can now get around to doing something more productive than fighting spambots all the time.--Anothrgamer1234 21:10, 24 March 2013 (MDT)
Hooray! Great work, Maxite! - Kirbman 08:37, 25 March 2013 (MDT)
Excellent, I was sure Asirra would work. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 12:52, 26 March 2013 (MDT)
Just came to say hi. Also, find a way to boost this wiki on the search history. Kid Icarus Wikia is overshadowing us. IceBlue[C] 22:11, 28 March 2013 (MDT)

Where did everyone go?

The wiki's been almost totally silent recently, save for the spambots trying to register. Have they scared everyone off the wiki or are people just too busy to contribute these days? (I'll have to admit I'm in the latter category, but they can't ALL be busy with something else.)--Anothrgamer1234 17:45, 26 December 2012 (MST)

Is it me, or am I the only admin left on these days? It's kind of creepy and it really doesn't bode well for our future here.--Anothrgamer1234 00:17, 17 January 2013 (MST)
No, I check Recent Changes every day. If I see talk page discussions, vandalism etc, I'll get involved, but of course there haven't been many of those lately. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 07:25, 17 January 2013 (MST)
I know, and that's what worries me. What's the point of having a wiki if nobody comes to edit it? I can only assume that the spambot deluge frightened off most of the legitimate editors.--Anothrgamer1234 08:20, 17 January 2013 (MST)
I'm here occasionally, but too busy to contribute as much as I'd like. What's with all the spambots anyway? It doesn't look like they're making any changes, just registering. Kirbman 13:47, 22 January 2013 (MST)
No idea; I'm guessing whatever Maxite did only prevents them from making edits. Since they're unable to affect the wiki in their current state, there's no point in banning them because it would only clutter up the Recent Changes page even more. I'd love to find out exactly who's responsible for sending them here so we can stop them for good, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.--Anothrgamer1234 01:40, 23 January 2013 (MST)
Users can't create userpages without first getting so many edits in the mainspace, which a spambot obviously won't do. Assira would theoretically stop the spambots for good, but I don't know if we ever got that. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 06:53, 25 January 2013 (MST)
I've seen spambots replace existing articles with their spam. If that starts happening we'll have to do something more. Is anyone able to check their IP addresses? If its a limited pool we could cut it down significantly with IP blocking. Kirbman 12:48, 25 January 2013 (MST)
I agree, but Maxite's the one in charge of technical matters here. Unfortunately, he seems to have disappeared, so there's not much we can do until he returns. --Anothrgamer1234 11:55, 26 January 2013 (MST)
Maxite has not disappeared. He actually runs things around here. He owns the website, he pays the bills. If he disappeared, the site would have been down awhile ago. I apologize for my long absence, but there are ways to contact Maxite. Does he not have an email listed on the Staff page? Thank you all for your patience. I'll try to be more active in the coming months. --Starphoria (C·E) 14:07, 7 February 2013 (MST)

Stat tables

Why are the wikitables black text on a dark grey background? They're almost unreadable. Here's an example from First Blade:

Current:

Shot Distance Damage
Continuous 75.6m 11.4
Charged 96.4m 58.2
Melee hit 1 67.2
Melee hit 2 37.8
Melee hit 3 79.8
Special attack 134.0

Suggestion 1:

Shot Distance Damage
Continuous 75.6m 11.4
Charged 96.4m 58.2
Melee hit 1 67.2
Melee hit 2 37.8
Melee hit 3 79.8
Special attack 134.0

Suggestion 2:

Shot Distance Damage
Continuous 75.6m 11.4
Charged 96.4m 58.2
Melee hit 1 67.2
Melee hit 2 37.8
Melee hit 3 79.8
Special attack 134.0

Can we please change either the background or the text to light grey? - Kirbman 14:21, 25 January 2013 (MST)

Suggestion 1 looks good to me. Feel free to change them around if you want to.--Anothrgamer1234 11:51, 26 January 2013 (MST)
Class "wikitable" is defined somewhere in the wiki's css, which only admins can edit. Changing it there will affect all tables on the wiki using that class. Do you want to modify that or should I add the css to each individual weapon stats table? - Kirbman 09:21, 28 January 2013 (MST)
I think I'll make templates for the damage tables so we can automatically get the proper rows and columns. That way I can set the background color once per table type, and we can even get the — for inapplicable fields for free. - Kirbman 10:05, 28 January 2013 (MST)
Nevermind about the templates. There are too many differences between weapons, so I tried individual rows instead of whole tables, but it didn't make the code clean or short enough to justify using row templates. - Kirbman 15:33, 29 January 2013 (MST)

Strategy

Hi, does anybody think we should start a strategy page? I know it would be some project, being that we would need strategy on all the weapons, but it could be interesting and useful.- Viperblade Can someone make the page for me? I don't know how e Icaruspedia

News

Hey guys, it's me! Klaw King! I was thinking, actually, that maybe this wiki could use a "newspaper" kind of thing, like they have on Super Mario Wiki. Who's with me? The Claw Master 16:12, 25 May 2013 (MDT)

Anybody there??? - Klaw King, leader of the Cancer Unit of Light Fighters and bearer of the Cancer Claws 19:21, 27 May 2013 (MDT)

Welcome King Klaw. There aren't a lot of contributors around here these days, so I don't know about a newspaper. I check in periodically and mean to add more weapon stats, but Fire Emblem: Awakening and Guild Wars 2 have had my gaming attention recently. - Kirbman 13:21, 10 June 2013 (MDT)

Priorities

Hey everyone, well, that is, if there is anyone on this site anymore. Anyways, if there are any frequent editors left here, I apologize for my absence, but the good news is I will likely be active again next week as school draws to a close. As we know the new SSB game has been revealed today (I started a little bit on it), and there are a still a ton of Uprising stuff that has yet to be complete. The weapon stats, locations, AR cards, and items are still not finished, and some articles are very low quality. I also noticed our wiki is really lacking pictures/artwork/screenshots. So it would be very nice to have people add more high quality images on numerous articles if they can. I think we really need some priorities set up here. So I nicely ask if certain could possibly focus on heightening the quality and completing certain parts of the wiki. I would really like to see the items and locations part to be complete as soon as possible. So, anyone alive here, please lend a helping hand. I don't want this site to go to waste. RicketyTrigger 18:21, 11 June 2013 (MDT)

Hey RicketyTrigger. I still check in occasionally to see what's new, but I haven't really been active recently. I have been meaning to get back to adding weapons' base stats and other information, which I'll probably do soon. - Kirbman 09:37, 26 June 2013 (MDT)
Hey Rickety. Late response. You still around? --Starphoria (C·E) 01:14, 28 June 2013 (MDT)
Back from vacation Star, now I can get to serious business. -RicketyTrigger 15:15, 24 July 2013 (MDT)
How ironic. I'm going on vacation just as you return, haha. Glad to see you editing again, though. --Starphoria (C·E) 05:59, 25 July 2013 (MDT)
I'll work on the AR Cards when I return. --Starphoria (C·E) 06:00, 25 July 2013 (MDT)
I'm back. I'll work on them when I get free time. --Starphoria (C·E) 01:52, 5 August 2013 (MDT)

Weapons unlock info

I'm back for another opinion about formatting the weapons' pages. How should we display information about how a weapon is unlocked? Should we give it its own section, include it in the infobox, add it as a note, or include it in the description? Most weapons don't have this info yet, but a few have it in the description. I feel like there's probably a better way to display it than letting it get lost in the description. - Kirbman 09:44, 26 June 2013 (MDT)

Sorry for the late reply, didn't see this here. Anyways, I think unlockable weapons should be mentioned on the info boxes of the main category they are found in AND on their specific articles in the starting information. So I guess, basically how it's now. --RicketyTrigger 13:35, 1 August 2013 (MDT)

News Expansion

Hey there. I'm just curious if there would be any interest in expanding our news capabilities. Currently we just handle news headlines. But it's possible that we could expand to also have a separate news website where we could have full articles discussing NIWA, Kid Icarus, and gaming, and maybe even editorials and columns like what Bulbapedia has. Maxite 18:21, 20 September 2013 (MDT)

I might be interested. --Starphoria (C·E) 13:05, 21 September 2013 (MDT)
Another idea that has come up might be to have forums as well, if people would be interested in that. We could have a news section, a gaming section, and various other discussion(s) could be had. Maxite 17:41, 23 September 2013 (MDT)
I'm unsure about forums. F-Zero Wiki opened a forum, and it was used by very few people, and died out quickly. Toast Wii U U.pngltimatumSwadloon.png 08:45, 30 September 2013 (MDT)
That is true. My original plan was that we wouldn't make the forums strictly Kid Icarus based (just more so focused), and have some open ended forums to promote discussion of other subjects (e.g. anime, television, etc...). Alternatively, we could work with some other NIWA wikis and run a "combined" forum. Maxite 09:31, 30 September 2013 (MDT)
