The Chaos Kin, known in Japan as Messenger of Chaos (混沌の遣い Konton no Tsukai), is an antagonist in Kid Icarus: Uprising during the Chaos Kin arc of the story. It is a monster that desires to create pure chaos, and has the ability to control, steal and devour souls.

The Chaos Kin, despite being a very powerful creature, is actually quite small. It resembles a cycloptic insect with green wings with its symbol on them and multiple red legs that allow it to move very fast. The Chaos Kin's most notable feature is its long, hook-shaped tail that allows it to dig into a person's soul and pull it right from their body.
Physical Appearance
The Chaos Kin, despite being a very powerful creature, is actually quite small. It resembles a cycloptic insect that resembles a cross between a scorpion, a spider, and a moth with green wings with its symbol on them and multiple red legs that allow it to move very fast. The Chaos Kin's most notable feature is its long, hook-shaped tail that allows it to dig into a person's soul and pull it right from their body.

Personality
Mostly, the Chaos Kin acts like a mindless beast craving nothing but destruction, disorder and souls. However, it has ironically proven to be somewhat intelligent and patient, shown as how it waited until the Aurum war was over before making its move, and turning Pit into a ring so he wouldn't be a nuisance. As mentioned by Hades, it likely has a grudge against Viridi and her army because they trapped it in the Lunar Sanctum. Also, despite its great power, the Chaos Kin seems to be a bit cowardly. In Palutena's boss fight, it turns itself invisible to avoid detection, and when revealed, it hovers around Palutena and even hides behind her to not get hit. In the following chapter, it sends out waves of enemies before facing Pit and Dark Pit, and attempted to flee before Viridi stopped it, showing that it may only fight as a last resort.

Despite its cowardly nature, it is without a doubt one of the more nefarious characters in the game. Whereas Hades and Medusa are driven by a lust for power and revenge, the Chaos Kin simply desires chaos (hence the name), allowing it to commit monstrous acts without any kind of sympathy.

Abilities
Despite its diminutive size, the Chaos Kin is a very powerful being, its power being stated to rival that of the gods. The Chaos Kin's primary ability is to steal souls using its hook-like tail to feed on them. Once in possession of a victim's soul, the Chaos Kin can control the soul's owner, binding them to its will. It can even speak through its victims.

The Chaos Kin is capable of entering and exiting the Chaos Vortex at will by cleaving a hole into the fabric of space with its tail. While in the Chaos Vortex, the creature has complete control over all the strange phenomena that occurs there. It can even create replicas of itself and other enemies from all four different factions. However, performing such a feat drains the Chaos Kin's energy and it must eventually rest after a while.

In battle, the Chaos Kin primarily attacks by spitting fireballs at enemies. It can also attack by firing laser blasts of dark energy from its cycloptic eye. It can use its tail to fire blades of energy or create clouds of poisonous gas at opponents. The creature is incredibly swift, often scurrying around the battlefield. The Chaos Kin is also capable of flight by unfolding its wings.

In Kid Icarus: Uprising
The Chaos Kin is incredibly resilient, surviving multiple skirmishes with Pit and Dark Pit. Even when finally destroyed, the creature's magic allows it to continue living as a moving cloud of ash. In this state, it can possess others to revive itself.

The Chaos Kin is first seen when Pit destroys the Lunar Sanctum, which had served as the creature's prison, in Chapter 13: The Lunar Sanctum. Chaos Kin then zooms off and is not seen for a while.

It later appears during Chapter 18: The Ring of Chaos, which takes place three years after the events at the Lunar Sanctum. Palutena's soul has been possessed by Chaos Kin and has turned her army against the humans. In an attempt to rescue Palutena, Pit goes off to find the Lightning Chariot and uses it to break the force field around Palutena's Temple.

After the battle against Palutena in Chapter 20: Palutena's Temple, the Chaos Kin attempts to escape with Palutena, but she turns herself to stone, so that the Chaos Kin can only take her soul. During the following chapter, The Chaos Vortex, Pit and Dark Pit travel into the Chaos Kin's home, to retrieve the stolen soul. In the air battle, Pit pursues the Chaos Kin while it makes copies of itself. Eventually, the Chaos Kin is defeated in a boss battle, allowing Pit to return Palutena's soul to her body.

Unexpectedly, the Chaos Kin springs back to life at the end of the chapter and grabs Dark Pit to take him to the depths of the Chaos Vortex as an attempt to devour his soul. Pit then burns his wings while rescuing Dark Pit from the clutches of the Chaos Kin, permanently sealing it within the Chaos Vortex. Its true fate after this is unknown, though it is possibility still alive.

*In Greek mythology, Chaos was the void where everything was created, including the primordial gods. This could explain the Chaos Kin's incredible power that is supposedly greater than some deities and its ability to create copies of other living things.

* Strangely, when controlling Palutena, the Chaos Kin completely ignores all comments from Viridi and Hades.
