:::No idea; I'm guessing whatever Maxite did only prevents them from making edits. Since they're unable to affect the wiki in their current state, there's no point in banning them because it would only clutter up the Recent Changes page even more. ::::Users can't create userpages without first getting so many edits in the mainspace, which a spambot obviously won't do. Assira would theoretically stop the spambots for good, but I don't know if we ever got that.
