:::: Although CAPTCHAs would certainly help, the spambots seem to confine all their edits to their own userpages- probably because normal users cannot edit other people's userpages without serious reprecussions; needless to say, legitimate users might resent the application of CAPTCHAs to their own pages. The sheer number of spambots that have appeared (about 250 of them since the initial attacks) has led me to believe that the attacks might be coordinated in some manner; the content each spambot posts is nearly identical to the other spambots, so they must have a common origin point. If we can figure out where that is, we should be able to stop the attacks by blocking all IP addresses that are used by the region that the origin point is located in. Although this may sound like a drastic measure, I highly doubt that anyone from China or Taiwan uses this wiki anyway. | |||
