Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, known as Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu Supesharu (大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズSPECIAL, lit. Great Fray Smash Bros. Special) in Japan, is an upcoming game in the Super Smash Bros. series for the Nintendo Switch. The game was first teased on March 8, 2018 before being officially fully unveiled at E3 2018. It will include every returning fighter from previous installments, including those from the Kid Icarus series. Various other elements from the Kid Icarus series also return or are introduced. The game is set to release on December 7, 2018.
Playable characters
- Pit: Pit returns as a playable character, using his same moveset that he had in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. He has additional voice clips, such as a changed Star KO clip. Unlike previous games, Pit is a locked character.
- Dark Pit: Pit's doppelganger returns, again as a locked character and copying Pit's moveset. He is now classified as an "Echo Fighter", alongside Lucina and Daisy.
- Palutena: The Goddess of Light returns, this time as a locked character. With the removal of custom movesets, Palutena's neutral special is now Explosive Flame and he down special is now both Counter and Reflect Barrier, depending on the move she's countering.
Stages
All Kid Icarus based stages from earlier games return, along with their Omega forms. Stages have also been given an additional Battlefield form variant.
- Skyworld: A returning stage from Super Smash Bros. Brawl with breakable platforms.
- Reset Bomb Forest: A returning stage from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS that transitions between Viridi's fortress.
- Palutena's Temple: A returning stage from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and one of the largest in the game.
