Thanatos is the God of Death and a major villain in Kid Icarus: Uprising. He is revealed to be some sort of reincarnation of the Tanatos enemies from the original Kid Icarus, and will serve as the boss of the Seafloor Palace.
Description
Thanatos is shown to be a genie with a green skin tone and fish-like characteristics. He has two red eyes with cross-shaped pupils, as well as a large, smiling mouth with blue lips and two fangs. He also has a short, stubby nose and a skull ornament at the tip of his head. Thanatos seemingly wears silver shoulder armor, a red scarf, and a pair of large, genie-like trousers also decorated with yellow and red stripes. In addition, the armor on his shoulders appears to be covered with various branch-like structures that have jewelry hanging from them. Thanatos is also a shapeshifter and has a multitude transformations that he uses during battle, including a doll-like version of himself, a pot with his face in it, and a bat-like creature. He can also change into a cloud of bats to warp around the room he is battled in.
Trivia
- Thanatos has the same origins as the Tanatos enemy from the original Kid Icarus, although the latter was likely a mistranslation of the original name.
- Although Thanatos and Tanatos look very different physically, they both share certain qualities such as a green skin tone and blue lips.
- It is unknown how Thanatos underwent such a drastic change since Kid Icarus, but since he is a shapeshifter, it is very possible that his original snake-like appearance was simply one of his transformations.
