  • Kid Icarus: Uprising

Poseidon (ポセイドン Poseidon) is a minor character introduced in Kid Icarus: Uprising. He is the first divine character revealed that has not appeared in previous games of the Kid Icarus series. He is the mighty god of the seas and ally of Palutena who has very little patience for the monsters of the Underworld and humans filled with sin.

Characteristics

Appearance

He is a tall regal-looking god with light-blue muscular skin and long wavy white hair and facial hair. He wears regal-looking white and blue robes and a small crown on his head which signifies his status. His artwork also shows him carrying his signature trident with which he controls the seas.

Personality

Poseidon is a no-nonsense but fair deity who does not enjoy it when others take credit for his feats and will do what must be done for the good of the sea. He also has little patience for humans, believing them to be beings who are made of equal parts of hubris, envy and deceit, and shows them no mercy when they get out of hand, such as when he sunk an entire city long ago as a punishment.

In Kid Icarus: Uprising

Poseidon showing his contempt for both humans and the Underworld army.

In Chapter 7, Poseidon opens the sea after speaking with Palutena in hopes of being rid of Thanatos and his invasive force. Palutena soon takes credit for this feat in front of Pit, but Poseidon soon appears to correct her and is tempted to close it back up, but chooses not to until Pit reaches the Seafloor Palace where Thanatos's headquarters are. Along the way, he tells Pit of how troublesome the Underworld has been as of late and upon reaching the palace, he closes the sea once more to finish off the remaining enemies left. Once Pit is inside, he wishes the angel good luck and disappears.

Idol Description

The god of the sea. A silent observer of the invasions of the surface world, Poseidon grows annoyed with the Underworld's antics and grants a request to aid Palutena by opening the way to Thanatos's Seafloor Palace.

Trivia

  • In Greek mythology, Poseidon, Hades, and Zeus are all brothers. Although in the game, nothing is said about the relationships between each other.
  • Oddly, despite having a fully animated in-game Idol, Poseidon never appears in person during the story.
