Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, known in Japan as Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu fō Nintendō Surī Dī Esu / Wī Yū (大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ), also known popularly by fans as Super Smash Bros. 4 or SSB4, is the fourth instalment in the Super Smash Bros. series published by Nintendo. As the first game in the series to appear on two platforms, it was developed by Sora Ltd. in collaboration with Namco Bandai Games. Although both games feature identical character rosters and basic modes of play, there are notable differences between the two versions, including exclusive stages. The 3DS version features stages inspired by handheld games, while the Wii U version has stages based on console titles. Unlike it's predecessors, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is more focused on the individualized experience while the Wii U version is primarily multiplayer-focused, as with previous Smash Bros. titles.

Playable Characters
Pit: The angel returns as a playable character in this game, with an updated look and moveset based on his appearance in Kid Icarus: Uprising. While Palutena's Arrow remains as his neutral special move, all of this other specials, including his Final Smash, have been changed. Pit now utilizes the Upperdash Arm as his new side special, the Guardian Orbitars as his new down special, and the Power of Flight as his new up special. His Final Smash is now the Three Sacred Treasures.
Palutena: Palutana was revealed in a trailer at E3 2014 as a newly-added playable character. Many of her moves are based off of various powers that appeared in Uprising. Palutena is also one of the few characters to have 12 completely unique specials that can be altered through customization.
Dark Pit: Dark Pit was leaked through a user's Twitch channel who managed to get a copy of the 3DS game early. He is an unlockable newcomer and can be obtained by playing Classic Mode three times with three different characters, or playing 50 VS matches. He is mainly a clone of Pit, but has a few unique moves and properties.
Stages
- Palutena's Temple: A Wii U-exclusive stage based on the goddess of light's home. It is a massive stage similar to Temple and New Pork City.
- Reset Bomb Forest: A 3DS-exclusive stage inspired by Chapter 11: Viridi, Goddess of Nature.

Trivia
- Pit and Dark Pit's dodging sound effects are the same as heard in Kid Icarus: Uprising.
- Palutena and Dark Pit have unique victory lines when winning against each other:
- Palutena against Pit: "Oh, so sorry about that Pit."
- Palutena against Dark Pit: "Poor little Pittoo."
- Dark Pit against Pit: "Where's your goddess now!?"
- Dark Pit has two different lines when performing his Final Smash which both can be heard during gameplay. One of them has him saying, "It's time!", but for an unknown reason this is left out from his Sound Test, and only, "Goodbye!", is listed.
- Antony Del Rio, the voice actor of Pit and Dark Pit, is the only returning cast member from the English version of Kid Icarus: Uprising. He was also not credited for his roles.
