Merenguy (ガサック Gasakku) is a strange new enemy in Kid Icarus: Uprising. Unlike most Underworld monsters, this baddie doesn't attack Pit directly, instead serving as a very persistent distraction.
Characteristics
The Merenguy is one of the most obscure monsters in the Underworld. At first sight, the creature appears to have a large pair of eyes and lips. However, these seem to only be for decorative purposes, as the monster’s true face is hidden behind a target-like mask, where a pair of smaller, yellow eyes can be seen. Its artificial eyes are actually on the ends of its arms, while the lips appear to be on its torso. The Merenguy is not an aggressive fighter, and will not even move from its position. Instead, the creature relies on a strange, hypnotic dance and musical beat that it produces to draw the attention of its foes. The dance is so irresistible to watch that even trying to turn away from the monster’s gaze is impossible as long as it’s left alone. This can be very distracting for Pit, making him an easier target for other monsters in the area.
In Kid Icarus: Uprising
Merenguys first appear during Heads of the Hewdraw, although they are thankfully not very common. However, one will show up during an onslaught of enemies, effectively making the battle more difficult until it's defeated.
Idol Description
The Merenguy's dance is strangely entrancing. So much so that it uses its talent to distract enemies for the Underworld Army. When that folksy music starts playing and Merenguy starts shaking its hips, you just can't look away.
