Affiliation(s): Underworld Army
Enemy Type: Grounded

Guttler (パクンチ Pakunchi) is a new enemy in Kid Icarus: Uprising. It is unique in that it will often attack and eat other enemies due to its voracious appetite, although fresh angel is still certainly at the top of its menu. This monster grows larger and stronger the more it eats, giving it a health boost; consequently, killing any smaller enemies around it is an ideal strategy, as this limits how powerful the Guttler can grow. If it catches Pit in its mouth, the Guttler will simply chew on him for a while before spitting the angel out, getting a bit larger in size in the process (as if it had succeeded in eating another enemy). Struggling by wildly moving the circle pad around will lessen the damage time it will hold Pit in its mouth. On occasions, the Guttler will use the balls on top of it as projectiles against Pit, but only from a far distance.

Guttlers are semi-rare enemies found only in land battles. They are first encountered in The Wish Seed, near the Zodiac Chamber. Another can be encountered in The Lightning Chariot, and two in The Chaos Vortex.

Idol Description

This gluttonous monster gobbles up anything it can. Whether it eats friend or foe, Guttler grows stronger with each creature it consumes. Although this helps cut down on the number of enemies, it also gives Guttler's attacks a bigger bite.

Trivia

  • Guttler appears to be a grotesque parody of Kirby as they are both spherical in design, have oval-shaped eyes, and become more powerful as they eat.
  • A "guttler" is defined as "a greedy eater or glutton" by Webster's Dictionary, which matches the Guttler's behavior quite well.
  • Guttler's Japanese name, Pakunchi, contains the word "パク paku", a Japanese onomatopoeia for munching sounds.
